H. Sadhashiva – Champion of the Marginalized and Voice of the People

H. Sadhashiva is a senior journalist and seasoned activist from Karnataka, whose decades-long journey has been marked by fearless advocacy for the downtrodden and unwavering commitment to social justice. Beginning his career in the world of print media, he earned a reputation as a bold and principled journalist, using his platform to highlight the struggles of Dalits, backward classes, and minority communities. His work in journalism was never limited to reporting — it was an act of activism in itself, giving voice to the voiceless and holding power to account.

Beyond the newsroom, Sadhashiva immersed himself in social movements and grassroots struggles. He was an active participant in the Dalit Sangharsha Samiti, one of Karnataka’s most influential movements for Dalit rights. He also briefly served as the president of the Samata Sainik Dal in Bangalore, a historic organization founded by Dr. B.R. Ambedkar to fight against caste-based discrimination and promote equality. Later, under the leadership of Phoolan Devi, he joined the Ekalavya Sena and served as its state general secretary, further strengthening his commitment to the cause of social justice.

His leadership extended into organizational and political spheres as well. He served as president of the Janata Samaja Seva Trust, a social service organization, and was also a member of the executive committee of the Karnataka Working Journalists Association, reflecting his respected standing in the journalistic community.

Politically, Sadhashiva’s journey evolved with his tenure as state secretary of the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), where he worked to bring the concerns of marginalized communities to the forefront. However, his vision for deeper grassroots impact led him to establish a new political platform — the Karnataka Janata Sena Dal. As the founder and state president of this organization, he has built a powerful movement focused on the upliftment and empowerment of Dalits, backward classes, and minorities. The Karnataka Janata Sena Dal has been actively involved in raising the voices of the oppressed, addressing their pain, and working to bring their issues to the attention of those in power.

In addition to his social and political efforts, Sadhashiva has also been deeply committed to preserving the rich culture and heritage of Karnataka. As president of the Suvarna Samskrutika Academy, he has led initiatives to protect and promote Kannada traditions, ensuring that cultural identity remains a source of pride and strength for future generations.

His lifelong efforts can be summed up through his key roles and contributions:
