Mohan “Hiss Mohan” Krish: Bengaluru’s Compassionate Wildlife Hero

Mohan Krish, popularly known as “Hiss Mohan”, is an extraordinary wildlife rescuer and social worker based in Bengaluru. With a heart full of compassion and unmatched courage, he has dedicated his life to saving snakes and giving a dignified farewell to deceased stray animals. His story is one of selfless service, resilience, and grassroots leadership.

🐍 Early Life & The Birth of QART

Hailing from Bengaluru, Mohan’s journey into wildlife rescue began with a strong sense of empathy for all living beings. He was trained in snake handling by herpetologist Mohammad Anees, and in 2004, he founded the Quick Animal Rescue Team (QART).

QART has grown into a volunteer-led group that rescues snakes, injured animals, and even performs respectful burials for deceased stray creatures.

🚨 Over 30,000 Snake Rescues

Mohan has personally rescued over 25,000 snakes in his lifetime. From cobras hiding in kitchens to rat snakes found in cars, no call for help is too small. His work is not only about rescue—it’s about educating people on the importance of snakes in the ecosystem and dispelling myths about their danger.

During monsoons, especially in 2021 and 2022, he was receiving up to 8 snake rescue calls per day, a massive increase from the average of 2–3 before the lockdown.

“We rescue and release the snakes safely in forest areas, not just remove them,” says Mohan.

🌱 Dignity in Death – A Mission of Compassion

Mohan’s compassion extends beyond the living. He has buried over 300 deceased stray animals including dogs, cats, cows, monkeys, and birds—many of which had been hit by vehicles or died due to neglect.

He and his team follow respectful practices:

  • Use of protective gear (gloves, masks, jackets)
  • Digging proper graves
  • Burning camphor to purify surroundings
  • Sprinkling cow dung for sanitation

His goal is to ensure dignity in death for every life, no matter how small.

🌧️ Lockdown Heroes: Rescuing Amidst Crisis

During the COVID-19 lockdowns and the heavy rains that followed, Mohan and his fellow rescuers became lifelines. As people stayed indoors, wildlife crept into urban spaces. Mohan responded swiftly, sometimes risking exposure to viruses and floods to answer emergency calls.
